Definition - What does Fumes mean?

Fumes refer to gas, air or vapor that carries a strong smell and/or is dangerous to inhale. Fumes can be a hazard in the workplace, especially when hazardous chemicals are being used.

Safeopedia explains Fumes

For example, when metals are heated and melted down, they produce vapors called metal fumes. When the fumes come from zinc oxide, magnesium oxide, chromium or cadmium, they can cause what's called metal fume fever, a reaction to the toxins in these materials.
