What Does Welding Respirator Mean?
A welding respirator is a piece of protective equipment that protects welders from fumes. Various designs are available including half mask respirators, powered air purifying respirators and supplied air respirators are used depending on the level of fumes in the workplace. OSHA requires that workers not be exposed to hexavalent chromium and zinc fumes, pollutants produced in the welding process, beyond permissible exposure limits (PELs). Particulate pollution and other fumes can also present hazards. Ways of eliminating the danger through such factors material substitution and improved ventilation are considered first. If it is not possible to reduce exposure through these measures, personal protective equipment is used.
