Last updated: May 21, 2019

What Does Critical Thinking Mean?

Critical thinking is an intellectual skill which helps us, as humans, to think more clearly about a logical and rational course of action or belief. It includes the ability to take part in independent and reflective thinking, which helps us to seek more precise truths and eliminate cognitive biases, prejudices and erroneous ideas, as well as support the creative process and refine good ideas.

Safeopedia Explains Critical Thinking

The term "critical thinking" has its roots in the mid-late 20th century. The discipline is designed to assist in any thinking process by improving the quality of our natural thought process. This is based on the premise that our natural thinking process unchecked can lead to biases, partiality, prejudice, etc. due to the emotional impact of thoughts, and also that the quality of life is determined by quality of thought.
