Last updated: January 29, 2017

What Does Bioenergy Mean?

Bioenergy is the name given to the usable energy found in organic material. This includes only the organic material that is found in living organisms, or organisms that were recently alive. This definition, therefore, excludes fossil fuels as the organic material found in fossils has been dead for many years. The organic material that contains bioenergy is called biomass.

Safeopedia Explains Bioenergy

Bioenergy is the most commonly used form of renewable energy on a global scale and can potentially have good effects on our economy and our environment. The fuels we use which contain bioenergy include both liquid and solid biofuels. Common kinds of liquid biofuels include ethanol and biodiesel, among a range of others. Solid biofuels include wood, manure or charcoal that can be burned as fuel as well as other modern innovations.
