Such certification must meet the safety requirements of the Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) standard.

Safeopedia Explains Forklift Certification

Forklift certification assures that the certified operator is able to perform the forklift operation properly and safely in the workplace. An employer arranges formal classroom education and on-ground practical training to the operators, and upon completion provides certifies to each successful operator. Certificates state the name of the operator, duration of the training and dates, date of evaluation and the name of person(s) performing the training and evaluation.

There are commercial organizations that provide basic training, refresher courses, specialist courses and advanced forklift operation trainings. Employers must issue certificates to the forklift operators before they operate forklifts in any workplace.
