What Does Steel Toe Caps Mean?

A steel toe cap is a part of a safety boot usually made of steel or compound materials. It protects wearer’s toe from falling objects and accidental compression. It covers the front areas where the toes remain inside the boots. It is covered by leather or other tough materials on the outer side and soft and comfortable material in the inner side. Safety boots with steel toe caps are widely used in construction industry and machinery spaces. It is required by compliance to use safety boots with steel toe cap in certain industries and work environments.

Steel toe caps save toes from traumatic injuries in workplaces such as, cutting, pinching or crushing under the falling objects, sharp edges, ropes and chains, wheels, rollers or gears of machines, rotating or abrasive machineries. In case of accidents, boots without steel toe caps, may not protect cuts or punctures of skins, muscles, tendons, blood vessels nerves or abrasions of the skin.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires the employers to ensure that every worker must use steel toe cap protected safety boots when working in an area where there is a risk of foot injury due to falling or rolling objects or objects piercing the boots etc. The use of steel toe cap boots minimizes the occupational foot injuries.
