Epidemiology Mean?
Epidemiology is a science that strives to determine the causes and implications of health issues and illnesses within specific populations. The findings of epidemiologists inform decision-makers as to the policies and procedures that should be put into place to prevent health problems and illnesses within communities and groups that are subject to specific health risks. The methodologies of epidemiology are applied to clinical research, public health studies and other biologically-related scientific research.

In the context of occupational health and safety in the US, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducts research into workplace health hazards and formulates recommendations, which are published under the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) banner. These recommendations are based on the epidemiological research conducted and are produced with the aim of reducing the incidence of workplace-related injury or disease. Workplace health and safety professionals are thus able to access the recommendations made after epidemiological research has been completed.
