What Does Soil Mean?

Soil is the very top layer of the earth’s surface that contains all of the earth’s plant growth. It is composed of rock and mineral particles mixed in with decaying organic matter, and has the capability of retaining water. This makes soil perfect for plant growth. There are 5 different types of soil, which stem from 3 different types of rock particles.

The natural soil cycles support the growth of plants and the replenishing of nutrients within soil. Soil also hosts many of our living fauna organisms and thus helps to support animal life.
