What Does Controlled Product Mean?

A controlled product refers to a product or substance that is listed in one of the six hazard classes in Controlled Products Regulations (CPR) part IV, defined for Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS). These are also substances which are included in schedule II of the Hazardous Product Act (HPA).

Controlled products are listed in schedule II of the Hazardous Product Act (HPA) and categorized in 6 classes for Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS). These are:

  • Class A - Compressed gas

  • Class B - Flammable and combustible materials (flammable gas, flammable liquids, combustible liquids, flammable solids, flammable aerosols, reactive flammable materials)

  • Class C - Oxidizing materials

  • Class D - Poisonous and infectious materials (materials causing immediate and serious toxic effects, materials causing other toxic effects, biohazard infectious materials)

  • Class E - Corrosive materials

  • Class F - Dangerously reactive materials
