Stopping the Stigma: Best Practices for Addressing Mental Illness and Workplace Safety

According to the World Health Organization, 1 out of 5 people will be affected by mental illness at some point in their lives. Even more startling, WHO estimates that two-thirds of these individuals won’t seek medical help.

Employers and managers can no longer ignore this trend staring them in the face. Not only does poor mental health among employees result in reduced productivity, but it also has a direct tie to lost profits.

To truly enact a healthy workplace, change must begin at the top with upper management. Senior leaders need to foster an environment that emboldens workers to feel comfortable discussing mental health issues. A mental health program should be delivered consistently to all stakeholders, including contract workers who come on your site or are supervised by a subcontractor.

In this webinar, we’ll discuss how to:

  • Break the stigma of hiding mental health issues versus medical health issues.

  • Implement programs to discuss mental health.

  • Make discussions of mental health commonplace and not off-limits.

  • Go beyond – taking steps to raise awareness of signs, symptoms, effects and impacts.
