Oil and gas workers face a variety of upstream hazards while on the job. Chemicals used in the drilling process can pose a risk of exposure, and impact hazards are present when working with heavy machinery or pipes. Flash fires can occur when flammable gases are released during production, and exposure to extreme temperatures can lead to fatigue, heat stroke, or frostbite. Cut hazards are also present when handling tools. In addition, falls and drops are a significant hazard on drill rigs, which are often over 13 feet high.
There's also a number of hazards on the downstream side.
