High Visibility T-Shirts

Last updated: September 27, 2017

What Does High Visibility T-Shirts Mean?

High visibility t-shirts are items of personal protective equipment (PPE), which are designed to prevent unnecessary accidents due to poor visibility. They are commonly worn by emergency services and used in busy environments or environments with low visibility. The principle behind design is that the clothing stands out from the rest of the environment as much as possible, making those wearing the clothing visible in low light. Based on this, the clothing is usually brightly colored yellow or orange and has reflective strips to make it more visible.

Safeopedia Explains High Visibility T-Shirts

According to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards the high visibility gear must be reflective from all sides for 1000 meters for visibility in darkness and the colour must contrast sufficiently from the environment to stand out, so the gear can be fluorescent red, orange, yellow or yellow-green. High visibility gear must be worn while working in traffic and emergency services must wear it after an emergency has taken place.
