Last updated: October 30, 2017

What Does Global Warming Mean?

Global warming describes the gradual increase in the overall temperature of earth’s atmosphere and oceans that has been observable from around 1975 onwards. There is no evidence, however, to support this date. Global warming has effects on the climate and our environment and is generally attributed to the greenhouse effect, which is caused by air pollutants.

Safeopedia Explains Global Warming

The effects of global warming include rising sea level and melting ice in cold regions, as well as hot and dry weather that can cause forest fires and other natural disasters. There is also a profound effect on the safety of our endangered species and a great threat to biodiversity. The main cause is believed to be increased release of carbon dioxide and methane in combination with other greenhouse gases released by burning fossil fuels.
