Definition - What does Ticket to Work mean?

Ticket to Work is a program of the U.S. Social Security Administration. It is designed to help social security beneficiaries with disabilities find work and become financially independent. They are able to retain their Medicare and Medicaid while going through the program. The Ticket to Work program provides beneficiaries who have disabilities access to meaningful employment.

Ticket to Work employment service providers are known as employment networks.

The Ticket to Work scheme is open to all persons between the ages of 18 and 64 who are receiving Social Security Disability Insurance or Supplementary Security Income. The program is completely free and voluntary.

Individuals no longer need a paper ticket issued through the mail to qualify. Eligibility of workers will be verified by the service provider that the person chooses. People who enroll in the program make a commitment to work at a specified earning level, or complete certain educational or training requirements.
