What Does Stress Mean?

Stress refers to mental or emotional tension or pressure resulting from adverse or overwhelming circumstances. It is often a result of a person feeling that they are unable to cope with a set of circumstances that are presented to them. If stress is not properly managed it can lead to depression, hypertension and migraines.

Safeopedia Explains Stress

The World Health Organization (WHO) states that work related stress is how workers react when pressure is put upon them that exceeds their abilities. When an employer stretches their staff, this can motivate staff to step up to the challenge, but must be done gradually. It is important for employers to have open communication with staff to ensure all in their company feel appropriately scaffolded to increase their workload and abilities without undue stress. If you are feeling an excess level of stress in your workplace, it is recommended that you speak with your employer, or HR representative, to brainstorm ways of making your workload more manageable.
