A megalopolis is a chain of large urban areas or cities that adjoin one another. It is also known as a mega-region or a super city. The development of megalopolises are stimulated by modern intertwined ground transportation services. The use of these transport systems to travel between cities is known as megalopping.

In the US, the North-West Megalopolis is the most heavily developed area of the country. It runs from the northern suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts to the southern suburbs of Washington, D.C. into Northern Virginia. This area is also known as the Boston-Washington corridor or the B0s-Wash Corridor. About 17% of the US population, or roughly 50 million people live in these areas.
