What Does Infiltration Mean?

Infiltration is a term used to describe a process where one thing passes into another. It is a term used most often when referring to water or a liquid, when it permeates an object or substance by entering into gaps or pores.

Water entering a sponge is a good example and It is the process by which water on the surface of the earth enters the soil. Water infiltration and infiltration rate is important when considering the health of soil. Soil can be likened to a reservoir that stores water for plant growth. All the water in soil that is needed to support plants is replenished by infiltration. Under poor management, water does not infiltrate into soil properly, but can instead, simply move across the earth’s surface as runoff.
