Definition - What does Biocide mean?

A biocide is a chemical substance or a microorganism which is used to destroy, render harmless, deter, or have some kind of controlling effect on a harmful organism by biological or chemical means. Pesticides, herbicides or fungicides are all examples of different kinds of biocide. The term biocide is used due to the fact that it is used against biological organisms.
