What Does Total Incidents Mean?

Total incidents refers to the sum of fatalities, permanent disabilities, lost time injuries, restricted work cases and medical treatment cases that occur in a workplace, region or other specific jurisdiction within a certain period of time. These are incidents that meet the criteria for being reported to a regulatory authority.

Total incidents may also be referred to as "total recordable incidents" or "total recordable incident rate" (TRIR).
