Definition - What does International Institute of Risk & Safety Management (IIRSM) mean?

The International Institute of Risk and Safety Management is an international body for the promotion of safe practices, which is based in the United Kingdom. The Institute was established in 1975 with the aim of enhancing the standards of practice in accident prevention and occupation health around the globe. Membership of the not-for-profit Institute comprises 70 countries.

The International Institute of Risk Safety Management (IIRSM) has two main objectives:

  1. To promote research into accident prevention and occupational health

  2. To educate and encourage individuals to follow best practices in accident prevention

The vision of the IIRSM is that health and safety become a priority for every person. IIRSM members undertake to follow a code of ethics, which includes only participating in activities where they are competently able to proceed in a safe manner. The Institute has strong connections with many universities around the world and is a strong advocate of safety and occupational health higher education.
