Construction workers are exposed to many dangers on a daily basis. One of the most important items of PPE is hi-vis clothing. Hi-vis clothing is designed to be highly visible, so that workers can be easily seen by both co-workers and passing motorists. Hi-vis clothing is classified by the American National Standard for High-Visibility Safety Apparel and Accessories (ANSI/ISEA 107-2015). There are three classes of hi-vis clothing, based on the amount and width of reflective material, as well as the background material. In addition, hi-vis clothing is designated for specific work purposes, such as off-road - Type O, roadway or temporary traffic control - Type R, or public safety activities - Type P.
